Chicago’s skyline is amazing. Really. I think any photographer who’s been anywhere near the city knows that spot, on the shore next to the Adler Planetarium, where I took this photo. Or rather, Where I took this set of photos.
This is a panorama. Rather than take one photo with a wide-angle lens, I used an 85mm lens and took many photos, putting them together afterward in Lightroom and Photoshop.
Optically, a panorama built from many photos looks different than a wide angle photo. Because the lenses have different distortion characteristics, the objects in the final image have different proportions, and, to my eye, they just look better. Also, you can print ridiculously big. The sailboat above is actually a crop from the skyline panorama.
